Roof Soft Washing
Roof soft washing is the process of removing green algae, gloeocapsa (black algae), mold, mildew, lichen and moss from roofs. Roof washing can also clean oxidation on metal roofs. Roof washing can extend the duration of a roof's ability to function. Algae and other types of build-up often form on the north and west parts of roofs that are shaded or receive less sun, and can reduce a roof's life expectancy. The presence of soot, dirt, or biomass can affect how much sunlight is absorbed by a roof and thus the amount of heat a building absorbs.
Because algae and moss retain moisture, they can cause shingles to deteriorate and rot. Mold, mildew, algae, and fungi growths are frequently excluded under most standard insurance coverage policies. Insurance companies consider keeping the roof clear of debris as being part of normal home maintenance, and that means they can deny a claim for damage caused by organic debris on roofs under the grounds of negligence on the part of the homeowner.
